So, what is the amount offered to the SASSA Grants applicants in 2025? According to reports, the SRD grants payment has been increased by R20, applicable since April 2024. Before that, the total amount was R350. Now, it’s R370; hence, the grant got the name R370.
Remember, this increase is applicable to all the social relief grants under SASSA, whether child support, disability aid, or older-person grants. Here is a breakdown of all the previous and current amounts paid to the beneficiaries of each group:
About The SASSA Grants
The SASSA (South African Social Security Agency) Grant provides financial aid to children, elderly citizens, disabled individuals, and the unemployed. This program, launched in 2005 to help the lower class financially, covers seven (7) social grants.
One of these grants is the Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) or R370 Grant (previously R350). It’s called R370 because each applicant will be granted this amount in their bank or digital account.
The SASSA Status Check tool helps the SRD Grant applicants check their application status (approved, pending, or rejected) online. To use the tool, individuals have to enter their government-approved ID and registered mobile number.
This is the quickest and most accurate method. You just need to open your web browser and enter the required details. After that, click on the Check Status button, and that’s it.

- Done! You’ll see the status of your application.
2. On The Official Website
The second method for checking the status of the R370 social security grant in 2025 is through the official website. This method is lengthy because the website serves different functions, meaning that users will have to find what they are looking for.
Another thing we found on the official website is that you don’t see the option directly. That’s why it takes time to find the status check feature and see your application status. Here are the steps you can follow to take advantage of this method:
Detailed Method
- Go to Google and type sassa status check online in the search bar.
- Click or tap on the SASSA SRD Status result from the search results.
- Next, the status-checking tool will open up to enter your details.
- Once you enter your SA ID and phone number, click the Submit button.
- Finally, you’ll see the status of your application and payment date.
Quick Method
- Open any web browser on your smartphone.
- In the search bar, type srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status.
- Or click on this link, and you’ll be redirected to the tool.
- Enter your ID and number in the required fields.
- Tap or click on the Submit button, and voila!
- Your application status will pop up on the screen.
3. Via Mobile Phone SMS
The next simplest method to check your R370 grant status is to use the SMS service offered by the officials. If you don’t have access to the internet, this method is life-saving. To check the status through SMS service, follow these steps:
- Open your mobile phone’s default Messaging app.
- Start a new conversation by tapping the + icon.
- In the Recipient field, type 082 046 8553 number.
- In the Message field, type SASSA <space> ID number.
- For example: SASSA 9643572113495
- Send this text from your registered phone number.
Within a few seconds, you’ll receive an SMS with all the details regarding the status of your SASSA R370 application.
4. Through The USSD Code
Another quick method to check the status of your R370 grant application without the internet is dialing the USSD code. This is an entirely free method and doesn’t cost you anything. To know the current status of your application, follow these steps:
- From your phone dial pad, dial *134*7737# or *120*3210#.
- Once done, you will see a few pop-ups on your phone screen.
- In each pop-up window, you’ll have to enter specific details.
- In the first pop-up, you’ll be asked to enter your SA ID number.
- In the second pop-up, you’ll need to enter your phone number.
- Finally, your SRD grand status will appear on the screen.
5. Using The Call Service
Wait, we have another simple and quick method that works without the internet. In this method, you’ll have to dial a toll-free number and provide your details to know about your SRD grant status. Let’s discuss the steps in detail:
- Dial the SASSA helpline number, 0800 601 011, from your phone.
- Listen to the automated system and provide the required details.
- You’ll be asked to enter the ID that you used while applying.
- Next, you’d be required to enter your registered phone number.
After verification, the system will let you know about the status of your application and payment date. If you call from someone else’s phone, you might be asked to enter your personal phone number.
6. Using The MoyaApp
MoyaApp is not only a messaging and voice or video call app; it can also be used to apply for and check the status of SASSA Grants. This is a data-free app, which means you don’t need airtime or data balance to use it—you need an MTN, Vodacom, or Telkom SIM card.
To check the status of your SRD grant application using the MoyaApp, follow these steps:
- Install the MoyaApp from the App or Play Store.
- Open the app and tap Government Services.
- Next, choose the SASSA Grants option.
- After that, tap on Check Application Status.
- Now, enter your SA ID and phone number.
- Tap Check Status, and you’ll see the results.
This SRD status-checking method is lengthy, but if you are already a user of the MoyaApp, it’s an at-hand method. You can go through these steps whenever you want while staying connected to your friends and family.
7. Checking On WhatsApp
According to Meltwater, the most used social media platform in South Africa is WhatsApp, with more than 90% of users. So, it’s clear that you must have WhatsApp installed and registered on your phone, right? If yes, let’s explain how to apply for a R370 grant on WhatsApp!
- First, save the SASSA WhatsApp number, 082 046 8553, in your contacts.
- Open WhatsApp, tap the new conversation icon, and pick that contact.
- In the message field, type and send SASSA in that conversation.
- You’ll get a Welcome message with several options to choose from.
- Type STATUS in the message field again and send it in the chat.
- You’ll get another message asking about your reference number.
- There will be two options in the message, Yes and No; reply with Yes.
- Next, you’ll be asked to provide your registered cell phone number.
- In the next message, you’ll be asked to share your reference number.
- Finally, you’ll see the status of your current SASSA Grants.
8. Visiting The Local Office
Last but not least, if you don’t want to use any of these methods and live near a SASSA office, you can visit in person. But before booking your Uber or Bolt ride, find which office is located nearest to you and visit there to ask the staff. To do so, follow these steps:
- Open the Waze Navigation or Google Maps app.
- In the search bar, type “sassa office near me.”
- You’ll see different places based on your location.
- Once you choose one spot, book your ride.
- Visit the office and approach the relevant staff.
- You’ll be asked about your personal details.
- Provide your ID and registered phone number.
- Finally, the staff will check your grant status.
Note: This method is recommended when your application is approved but your payment has not been deposited or when there are other issues that can’t be fixed online.
Different R370 Grant Application Statuses
Now, here comes the next important part of our discussion. Yes, we’ll discuss the meaning of different SRD grant statuses so you understand what action to take next. Plus, if your application is rejected or failed, we’ll explain the reasons and solutions as well.
Approved Status
First of all, if you have got Approved status upon checking your application, congratulations! You will get your SASSA Grants funds on the payment date given in the details.
What To Do Next?
You don’t have to do anything, as you’re the winner, haha! To receive your funds, you’ll need to set up your accounts—Bank, eWallet Services, or Post Office. In addition, you must keep these things in mind and be all set for the payment.
- Check and confirm your payday and remember it.
- Set up your bank account, eWallet, or Black Card.
- Next, provide SASSA with your beneficiary details.
- Wait for SASSA approval SMS from the officials.
- Once received, go collect your money and enjoy!
Exclusion Status
Self-exclusion, as the name indicates, when your SRD grant application is withdrawn for some reason, you’ll see this status. As a result, you’ll be removed or excluded from the eligibility criteria automatically.
Exclusion Reasons
So, what does self-exclusion mean in SASSA? If you get the self-exclusionary response found status upon checking your application, it could be due to 3 primary reasons. These include:
- Application with incomplete or wrong information.
- You get UIF support almost equal to or over R370.
- You earn over R370 per month from another source.
- You are receiving funds from another SASSA Grant.
What To Do Now?
If you think that you’re still eligible and do not fall into any of these conditions, you can appeal for correction. Here is what to do:
- Visit the nearest SASSA office.
- Provide your details and documents.
- The staff will recheck everything.
- Apply again for the SRD grant.
After a few days, your status will be updated. So, keep checking your SASSA grants status from time to time.
Pending Status
If your status is pending, your application is under review for verification by SRD and has not yet been processed. But you don’t need to worry, as the status will change to approved once the verification is complete.
But if your application is rejected for some reason, you can then lodge an appeal if you think you are eligible for the program.
Pending Reasons
You see a Pending status for your SASSA R370 application for two main reasons:
- Verification by the local SASSA team.
- An issue with the bank verification.
What To Do Now?
Well, the verification process can take up to 3 months. After the verification process, your application will either be approved or rejected. Throughout the entire duration, ensure you do the following things:
- Add your local area bank account details.
- Keep your registered number on for updates.
- Regularly check your SASSA grants status.
Referred Status
If you get Referred status for your SASSA application, it means that the application is referred to another department for review. This is done to filter out any fraudulent activity and only the eligible applicants receive the grant.
Referral Reasons
Sometimes, there appears some doubtful information on the application. In such cases, it’s forwarded for further internal verification. In fact, 90% of the forms are processed to the next step and the status is changed later on.
What To Do Now?
All you need to do is wait for SASSA to complete the review, and you don’t need to take action. Once the review is completed, your status will be changed, and you’ll be notified.
Rejected Status
If your SASSA application status shows Rejected, it means that you are not eligible for the R370 grant. In this case, you won’t get the funds until you visit the office and make corrections to the causes of the rejection.
Rejection Reasons
Well, there are several reasons for the rejection of your SASSA grant application. The most common causes are:
- Eligible for UIF payment
- Receive the NSFAS grants
- Incomplete or wrong details
- Don’t meet eligibility rules
- Conflicts in verifications
What To Do Now?
If your application is rejected, you can lodge an appeal (we’ve discussed the method in the next section). But as a quick option to fix the rejection status issue, you’ll need to:
- Confirm if you are eligible
- Provide all the income sources
- Document information again
Approved, But No SMS! What To Do?
The SASSA R370 Approved But No SMS or Payments status is a system error commonly seen by the applicants. In this case, when users check their status, they see Approved status but are not notified by an SMS. So, what causes this issue? Here are the reasons:
- You might have entered the wrong number during the application.
- There might be an issue with the data saved in the SASSA database.
- Your phone might be in a low signal area with weak network strength.
- There could be a temporary issue with the SASSA SMS alert system.
If you think that there is a problem either on your or at SASSA’s end, you can lodge an online appeal.
Things Required To Lodge An Appeal
To appeal for reconsideration of your SRD grant, you’ll need to get prepared with a set of details. You’ll need to:

- Marital status (if applicable)
- A bank-issued statement

How To Lodge An SRD Grant Appeal?
